How it began

Founded in 2012 by renowned human and animal rights activist Anjali Gopalan, All Creatures Great and Small was built from a deep belief that injured, abandoned, old, and vulnerable animals deserve more than just survival. They deserve safety, compassion, and a place where they can truly heal.

After witnessing the lack of care and empathy in many shelters, Anjali envisioned a sanctuary where animals would be treated with patience, dignity, and love. What began as a small rescue space for dogs has since grown into a home for hundreds of animals, including cows, horses, donkeys, birds, rabbits, cats, monkeys, and more.

Today, the sanctuary cares for animals who often have nowhere else left to go, providing medical treatment, rehabilitation, lifelong protection, and most importantly, a sense of peace and belonging.

Our Vision

ACGS believes that animals have a right to an inclusive cruelty-free life. They need to be recognised as sentient beings, no different from humans, and must be included in the global social justice movement along with all the other liberation movements.

Our Mission

ACGS’s mission is to create a gentle, nurturing, loving and compassionate sanctuary for old, sick, abandoned and lonely animals. We believe every animal that comes through our gates is special and is worthy of quality care, good nutrition, medical attention and tons of affection.

Our aim is to create a happy forever home for each permanent resident till the end of their lives whether at the sanctuary or through our adoption programme.

Sunil Kalra is a Delhi-based angel investor and entrepreneur with a long-standing interest in social impact and community welfare. Alongside his work in the startup ecosystem, he has actively supported animal welfare initiatives focused on the care, protection, and rehabilitation of vulnerable animals. His involvement reflects a belief that compassion and responsibility must extend beyond people to the animals we share our world with.

Percival Billimoria is a designated Senior Advocate practising before the Supreme Court of India, the Delhi High Court, and other High Courts, as well as a qualified Chartered Accountant. Alongside his commercial practice, he has been a leading advocate for animal welfare, advancing legal protections for animals through landmark cases and sustained work with animal welfare organisations.

Board Members

ACGS Board Members are changemakers who combine decades of experience across social work, law, arts, and technology. Their leadership strengthens our vision of a world where every animal is safe, loved, and cared for.

Anjali Gopalan

is Managing Trustee at ACGS and Founder of The Naz Foundation India Trust. A renowned activist in HIV, gender, and rights.

Sumant Jayakrishnan

is a scenographer, designer, and theatre artist known for projects like Water and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He received the Charles Wallace Art Award in 1994 for his work in design and installation art.

Gurpreet Virk

brings experience in IT and hospitality, transitioning to the nonprofit sector in 2008. He’s played a key role in supporting NGOs and building their operational capacity.

Raji Nair

runs Inspiration India, a travel company started by her husband Anup Nair. She has been associated with the travel world for the last three decades. She also heads Incentive Foundation, an NGO working to empower the women of Bandhwari Village.

Dr. Amit Motihar

a Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Anaesthesiologist by profession. When not working in the Operation Theatre or Cardiac ICU he spends his time baking, gardening and reading.
